Easy SEO Blog Strategy Every Shopify Owner Should Implement NOW

Discover this incredibly easy SEO blog strategy to boost your Shopify store's search engine ranking, traffic, and sales! This is the part of our Shopify SEO strategy we use in our agency.

While you might be tempted to start producing a lot of content and building links (which, by the way, can destroy your ranking when done poorly), there is a much better strategy that doesn't involve writing long articles and spending a fortune on writing or trying to nail ChatGPT. Which is focusing on your existing content!

1. Optimize your existing content.

Assuming you have your Google Analytics or Google Optimize connected, the first step is analyzing the data. We will be looking for the following metrics/categories:

  1. Articles that dropped in ranking over time
  2. Articles that rank in the top 10 but not in the top 3
  3. Articles with poor or no ranking

If you use a Google search console, filter your Shopify blog posts following the example below.

The next step is creating a spreadsheet and putting those articles into the abovementioned categories. It will be easier for you to track what needs to be done.

Now you need to improve each article, starting with articles in category 1 (articles that dropped in ranking) and so on.

How do you actually do it?

This is where keyword research comes in. Look at the keywords that dropped the most and add more content around those keywords to your existing article.

Use Ubersuggest or Ahrefs to identify the content that has stolen your spotlight in Google search results. If you don't have those tools or don't want to pay for premium tools, google the keyword and see top search results.

Evaluate your competitor's content. This is easier than it sounds, I promise! You need to compare your content with your competitor's content concerning:

  1. Readability, e.g., how easy it is to read and understand
  2. Quality, e.g., how engaging and valuable it is
  3. Credibility, e.g., are there any relevant backlinks to reputable sources?
  4. Formatting, e.g., use of subtitles, bullet points, and images.

Based on this evaluation, you can start improving your existing content.

When done right, you will see improvements in ranking within a month or so, depending on the competition.

For example, our client Bloom Bras saw a MASSIVE increase in traffic and ranking within a month

2. Interlink articles

You want to make sure your readers stay on your site as long as possible, so you need to interlink your articles or blog posts. We recommend 1-2 internal links per article; the key is to make sure your links make sense and serve as either continuation of the article or an explanation of the concept you talked about in your content.

3. Link relevant products and offer discounts

Since we are talking about Shopify and ecommerce in general, you want to link back to your products naturally and only when they make sense. Offer a discount code to the blog readers to track if this content type can influence your sales. In the end, content is king only if it offers value to the readers and profits to the brand owners.

4. Create more content when you are done with optimization

Once you start seeing results from content optimization, analyze the data again. At this stage, we will be looking at the following:

  1. Articles that brought sales
  2. Articles that have the most significant increase in ranking

Once you have identified those blog posts, create the supporting content and link back to those articles. Avoid using the exact same keywords and topics, so you won't compete with your own content.

For example, your best-performing article is about meditation. In that case, your supporting article could be about wellness practices or things to do in yoga retreats. The support article is relevant to the context but differs from your best-performing content.

5. Use OpenAI or ChatGPT with caution

AI content generators can do miracles; you won't see the difference between AI-generated and human-written texts. Many Shopify apps are leveraging OpenAi to autogenerate product descriptions and content. I don't see anything wrong with it. In fact, it can be very beneficial, but you have to do it with caution.

  1. Fact-check everything. AI lies. A lot.
  2. Use AI writers as helpers to finish the sentences or come up with the following talking points.
  3. Add your unique personality to the content. Make it yours.
